Outdoor Spring Cleaning Tips For Commercial Properties

Spring is the best time to get work done around your property and ensure it is in top shape before the summer months begin. It is a time when everything is growing and changing, and your property should be no different.

Getting the outside of your property in great condition after the winter can be a large task, with many things to get done. Luckily, we will be going over all the things you need to get done and how to do them best, so that your property will be the best looking one on the block in no time. First, let's take a look at common outdoor spring tasks that you will most likely need to get done:

  • Clean up garden beds
  • Prune trees, bushes, and plants
  • Re-edge garden beds
  • Clean eavestrough
  • Aerate lawn
  • Clean up lawn
  • Add fresh mulch
  • Add plants where needed

Initial Clean Up

The first thing you want to do is a full once- over clean up of your property. This includes cleaning up any sticks, debris, dead leaves and anything else that has made its way onto your property during the winter months.

Also getting rid of any dead plants, bushes, or trees should be done during this time as well. Once all the debris are cleared, you will be able to get a much better idea of where you are at and what you need to get done to be where you want to be.

Also, this is the time to look at the health of your lawn and start to make any necessary steps to get it looking green and healthy. Since your lawn can require the most work and take the longest to get into good shape, it is important to start working on it early so it is ready for summer.

Planting and Pruning

Once you have everything cleared and you can take a look at things, you will begin to find areas that could use some more attention. For example, you may find that some plants or bushes have died over the winter and need to be replaced, or some bare spots may have opened up that can now be filled with a new plant.

Spring is a great time to plan out where you want everything to go and determine any new plants or shrubs that you want to add. It is important to consult a landscaping professional when trying to determine which plants to put where, since every plant is different and requires different amounts of light, water, food and temperature.

Having someone to turn to with questions or to give you advice ensures you are putting the right plants in the right areas, which will make them thrive and look beautiful for summer. Springtime is also a great time to do any pruning you may need around the property.

This again is an important time to consult a professional since pruning the wrong tree or plant too early could lead to the plant not blooming later on in the year or even dying. Some plants also should only be pruned during the spring months, such as Lilacs.

With so much variety in plants and their needs, make sure you take your time and bring in outside help to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Lawn Care

The thing that ties any good yard together is a lush, green lawn. The rest of your yard can look great but if your lawn is brown and patchy, your yard will lack curb appeal. Once you have cleared all the debris from your lawn, the first thing you want to do is access the health of it.

Look for any brown spots, bare spots, or any areas that may need to be weeded. Doing this early gives you as much time as possible to reseed your lawn and begin the growing process. It takes time for your new seed to grow into a healthy lawn, so getting this part done early is essential to having a great lawn ready for the summer months.

Another thing you can do to help your lawn grow is aeration. Aeration is a process that punches little holes into your lawn, which allow air and water to flow more freely to your lawn’s roots. This method is very effective at getting your lawn to grow quicker, so if you have a lawn that is lagging behind your neighbors, aeration could be just what it needs to get ahead of the game.

Finally, you can add fertilizer to your lawn, fertilizer gives your lawn a booster shot of nutrients which causes the lawn to grow quicker and stronger. This again is a great way to jumpstart the growth of your lawn and have your lawn looking greener, quicker than anyone else.
