The Commercial Cleaning Checklist to Make Your Building Spotless

The pandemic has changed many businesses in a lot of ways, however the impact it has had on the commercial cleaning industry has been one of the most extensive. The standards for cleanliness have changed drastically, and that means your commercial cleaning needs have changed drastically as well. The main change is that the acceptable level of clean has become much higher, therefore the thoroughness of your cleaning practices has to increase. Luckily this blog will go over everything you need to know to make sure you have all your bases covered when it comes to the cleanliness of your office.

Weekly Cleaning

First we will go over things that you should be keeping up on at least once a week to make sure things don't get out of hand. It can be easy to take a few days off cleaning and all of a sudden you have a big mess that will take valuable time away from you to deal with.

Bathroom

First the bathroom areas must be cleaned thoroughly at least once a week as this is an area that tends to get dirty quickly and is a place that bacteria loves to roam. Make sure to clean bathroom mirrors, floors, and paper towel dispensers. Also thoroughly disinfect toilets, sinks, door handles, or any other area which you believe is high traffic and touched on a regular basis. As this is where the majority of the bacteria will be.

Common Areas / General Workspace

The common areas and workspaces in your office are where people will spend the majority of their time, so it is important that these areas stay clean and tidy to keep your employee satisfaction high. Make sure to clean and vacuum your carpets, hardwood floors, empty out the waste basket and recycling and wipe down any glass or doors that are in this space. If you have a common water fountain or cooler make sure to do a thorough clean of that area as well. Doing this will keep your office looking clean and tidy and will give new employees or office visitors a great first impression of your business.

Kitchen / Break Room

Your kitchen and break room are places that can get dirty especially quickly, so staying on top of things in these areas is very important. Make sure at least once a week to clean and disinfect kitchen floors, counters, fridge and shelf handles, paper towel dispensers, and finally the area around the sink. Again as with any area in your office, pay extra attention to areas of higher traffic to ensure they are clean and bacteria free.

Bi-Weekly / Monthly Cleaning

On a monthly basis, you want to focus on areas in your office that have a less regular level of traffic or use, and therefore take longer to get dirty. Make sure to clean less frequently used office floors and chairs, disinfect any shelves or cabinets, and clean and buff if necessary your hardwood floors. On a bi -weekly or monthly basis you also want to take a look at the outdoor areas of your office if applicable and clean any windows, doors or common spaces if necessary. Keeping up with this kind of cleaning will compliment your weekly cleaning initiatives and make for a very clean and tidy office for you and your employees.

Employee Upkeep

Keeping your office clean should not fall on you and you alone, your employees can also do things that will make your life much easier and limit the cleaning necessary on a weekly or monthly basis. Mostly this means making sure your employees are cleaning up after themselves. Meaning keeping their work area clean as well as when they use areas like the kitchen or break room it is important that they leave things clean when they are done. Communicate to your employees that they need to make sure they clean counters after preparing food, remove old food from the office fridge, clean up any spills or accidents that may occur, and are aware of allergies of other employees and act accordingly. When it comes to their workstation, keeping their desks neat and tidy and free of food or spills is very important in order to maintain the cleanliness of the office. You can clean all you want, but if your employees are not on board in keeping the office clean, it will never be.

When to Call in Help

If you think keeping up with the cleaning requirements is too time consuming and taking away valuable time from you and your employees, consider hiring cleaning professionals to take care of things for you. Bringing in a cleaning service will allow you to focus on your business, as well as give you the peace of mind that everything is up to you and your employees standard of cleanliness. Cleaning professionals can also give you tips specific to your office to help keep it clean when they are not around, allowing you to do a more effective job of maintaining your office once they leave. It is important to make sure you are getting the right cleaning service for you, as well as being careful to hire the right person for the job so you can be confident in their abilities to keep things clean. Luckily services like VendorPM allow you to compare service vendors and their qualifications in order to find the right vendor for you, giving you peace of mind that the job will get done right the first time.
